Regina 'Clear Water' for Bosnia and Hercegovina 2009
Lejla - 2006 Eurovision Song Contest Bosnia and Hercegovina
Laka 'Try' Bosnia and Hercegovina Eurovision 2008
Bosnia&Hercegovina Eurovision 1993
- Since 1993 Bosnia & Herzegovina has independently presented itself, however between 1961- 1991/2 Bosnia was a part of Yugoslavia.
The first represent for Bosnia & Herzegovina in 1993 was Muhamed Fazlagic- Fazla with the song 'Sva Bol Svijeta' translated 'The whole world's Pain'.
This Song described the Bosnian war occurring at the time. :::Personally, it would be too painful for me to go into details of this horror and what I have experienced during that time as I was still in Bosnia in 1993 along with thousand of others who share my pain.
Every year, my family follows The Eurovision Song Contest , this time I have selected a few of my Favorite songs for Bosnia.
In translation this song is painful, I have found a translation below so that you may understand it better.
The whole world's pain
No, I cannot feel the stars down here from the sky
I can't find the way to rise us up the road
I can only write and send a song to you
To know I'm still alive, oh my love
When the cold and darkness sneak into my bones tonight
I will not allow the fear to push me to the lights
I still have the power to fight them all alone
If you were with me, it's easier would be
The whole world's pain in Bosnia tonight
I stay here to challenge and to fight
And I'm not afraid to stumble and fall
I'll never stop to sing, they cannot take my soul
When the cold and darkness sneak into my bones tonight
I will not allow the fear to push me to the lights
Who will then be guarding, standing all the pain
So the evil one never comes again?
The whole world's pain in Bosnia tonight
I stay here to challenge and to fight
And I'm not afraid to stumble and fall
I'll never stop to sing, they cannot take my soul
The whole world's pain in Bosnia tonight
I stay here to challenge and to fight
And I'm not afraid to stumble and fall
I'll never stop to sing, they cannot take my soul
The Next song for Bosnia and Herzegovina one of my favourite artists, a song called 'Lejla' translated 'Layla' . Hari Mata Hari presented Bosnia and Herzegovina with this song In 2006 Eurovision Song Contest where he performed in Athens, Greece.
This song has always remained my personal favorite throughout and will never fade, I have found a translation to it and despite the full meaning to this can't possibly translate the feeling of it I hope it helps you understand why I love it so much.
Layla
I can smell the wind down the meadow
And pain follows me like a shadow
Are you still somewhere longing for me?
Where are you hidden from me?
Put rosemary in your hair
And a flower by the old fountain
Layla, how could you love another?
Dove, my dove
Carry the tears to her instead of the song
If tomorrow they ask for your hand
You should know I wont be there
Sorrows are easily forgiven
but only love never is
How could you love another?
Dove, my dove
Carry the tears to her instead of the song
I’m leaving as if I was guilty
of loving the one I’m not allowed to love
- Bosnia and Herzegovina entered a song in 2009, performed by another one of my fave bands REGINA with the song called 'Bistra Voda' in translation 'Clear Water' and the translation of this song
Clear Water
I’ve asked some people in my neighborhood
where does my soul live
One secret for me
they say you’re keeping, my dear
I’ve asked them to give me back
the time, days, hours,
There’s love scent
in the Spring
they say
Give me birth
at a May dawn
Bathe me
in clear water
I’m keeping a flower
when everybody else leaves
I’m keeping you
for as long as I live
Steal a bit of sun for us
there’s no tomorrow, no today
It’s easy
when a song finds your heart
Give me birth
at a May dawn
Bathe me
in clear water
I’m keeping a flower
when everybody else leaves
I’m keeping you
for as long as I live
Give me birth
at a May dawn
Bathe me
in clear water
I’m keeping a flower
when everybody else leaves
I’m keeping you
for as long as I live
- Now I go a year back to 2008 The Eurovision Song Contest for Bosnia and Herzegovina was presented by Elvir Lakovic 'Laka' with the song 'Pokusaj' which in translation means 'Try' . This one in particular was incredible with its silliness, it was a unique song and way cool. I found myself running around to this all the time during the contest , I laugh when I look back but this is still a popular song with Bosnia and am sure a lot of people will agree, in Bosnia I mean :) . The song is silly, and funny which is why I liked it so much it was different to anything Bosnia did before and I remain proud, I am sure you will agree if you read the translation.
Try
(Don’t come down from the stabbur)
(I was told by Laka, the singer)
(Don’t rattle with sandals)
(Don’t pretend to be a lady)
(Don’t come down from the stabbur)
(Personally Laka told me)
(Don’t come down from the stabbur)
(Until your love is strong)
With my favorite trick
I spoof fauna and flora
that life wasn’t created in the sea
but out of love
love, love
Out of love
How many days we’ve ran over
lying down, eating bananas
so we fell onto lower branches
Without love
love, love
Without love
I will try to kiss you and you act stupid
I will try to kiss you and you act stupid
I will try to kiss you and you act stupid
I will try to wake you up and you pretend to be awake
(Don’t come down from the stabbur)
(I was told by Laka, the singer)
(Don’t rattle with sandals)
(Don’t pretend to be a lady)
(Don’t come down from the stabbur)
(Personally Laka told me)
(Don’t come down from the stabbur)
(Until your love is strong)
I will try to kiss you and you act stupid
I will try to kiss you and you act stupid
I will try to wake you up and you pretend to be awake
I will try to kiss you and you act stupid
(Don’t come down from the stabbur)
(I was told by Laka, the singer)
I will try to kiss you and you act stupid
(Don’t rattle with sandals)
(Don’t pretend to be a lady)
I will try to wake you up and you pretend to be awake
- Finally, MY SONG NO1 For Bosnia and Herzegovina for this year. The 56th Eurovision Song Contest 2011 the one I have been waiting for. This years contest will be Held in Germany, The artist (King of Bosnian Music) Dino Merlin will be performing with 'Love in Rewind' and I have all the faith that Bosnia might walk away a winner :) . I have said 'Bosnia' might win so many times, but this one sticks in heart and I am just feeling certain.
Continuing their line of well-known artists, BHRT, the Bosnia and Herzegovina broadcaster, chose Dino Merlin to be their representative.
"Several years ago I avoided the Eurovision Song Contest and suggested artists such as Laka and Regina. Now, I'm in the middle of producing my new album and I'm full of ideas. Thus, it's the time to shape those ideas for the Eurovision Song Contest and I will do that with maximum energy and hard work," Merlin says.
- His song 'Love in rewind' contains a universal message as Dino Merlin said himself, he is the musician and songwriter for this song.
Love in Rewind
(Whoaaa oooh)
One to hundred multiplied by you
It all looks great, it all looks cool
Healthy children go to school
My daughter’s in love, my son loves too
Oh on the surface, oh in the distance
It’s all the same.
Oh, in the darkness, oh don’t you notice
What a different game yeaah
If you take this life from me today
Tare it up and bury me away
For just one two .. three songs of mine,
Hundred worries of mine
Your love, your love in rewind.
For just one two .. three songs of mine,
hundred worries of mine
And love, love in rewind
(whoaaa ooooh)
One to hundred multiplied by two
Just like me, it’s less about you.
To keep it running on serpentine
I don’t know where to run from reality yeaaah
If you take this life from me today
Tare it up and bury me away.
For just one two ... three songs of mine,
Hundred worries of mine
Your love, your love in rewind.
For just one two .. three songs of mine,
Hundred worries of mine
Your love, your love in rewind
::::::Good Luck To All the Countries with their performers, but my heart goes to mother Bosnia :::::::
CONCLUDED::::: So, There it goes, Bosnia and Herzegovina came in this top 6...taking 6th place in the Eurovision Song Contest this year.... I am gutted, not because it did not win but simply because of the "neighbopuring" countries always messing it up with throwing politics in the round..... Anyway...no money....no problem!!! ---- BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR !

Howdy Leptirela - It is always a difficult task to translate songs and poems, or the like, from one language to another. No matter that, let us hope that your very own favorite will be the contest winner.
despite its many tragedies over many long years, we all hope for peace and prosperity in your corner of the world, a very beautiful area it is, too.
Thanks for this well-written and nicely illustrated article.
Gus :-)))
Great article and awesome pictures.
somehow I am sure that we win :))
This is fun, every year we sit down and watch this show. I have grown weary of it in recent years, as too much "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" kind of co-voting seems to spoil it now. I try to like it for the many kinds of music and culture that it showcases. I like that part. A world with no borders or barriers would be just magical, and we would all benefit. Nice hub.
Haris Dzinovic + Dino Merlin = The Best Bosnian Musical Combo :).
